I’m very disappointed but not surprised to receive your email below. You continue to couch the truth that Planned Parenthood is the largest provider of abortions in America. Over 90% of the services they provide are abortions. You can no longer continue to deny the truth.

There are plenty of health care facilities in Louisiana and nationwide to provide the other services you are referring to in this email.

We are not misguided about deficit reduction. De-funding taxpayer funded abortions means just what it says; DO NOT spend our tax dollars to pay for abortions. The Federal Government sends PP millions of dollars annually.

Senator Landrieu, abortion is the killing of an innocent, unborn, human being, which we all once were. Surely you can have more compassion for the future of human beings created in the image of God.

Thank you for contacting me to express your views on the issue of Planned Parenthood. I appreciate hearing from you and apologize for any delay in responding to your message.

As you may know, Planned Parenthood provides important preventive and health care services to thousands of women and men in Louisiana who would not be able to afford it otherwise. These services include cervical cancer screenings, breast exams, HIV and STD testing and treatment, and more. The two Planned Parenthood clinics in Louisiana do not provide any abortion services at all. In fact, since 1976, Federal law has prohibited Planned Parenthood and every other provider from using Federal money to provide abortions.

Recently, the Congress considered legislation which would have defunded Planned Parenthood under the guise of deficit reduction. I voted against this bill because defunding Planned Parenthood would have restricted access to these vital health care services in Louisiana and across the country, while barely putting a dent in our Federal deficit. Money provided by the Federal Government to Planned Parenthood amounts to less than three thousandths of one percent (0.003%) of total Federal spending

I am concerned about the Federal deficit, and I want to have a real conversation about reducing our debt. Eliminating preventive and reproductive health care services for low-income Louisianans will not solve our budget problems; in fact, studies show that preventive care, the kind that Planned Parenthood provides, lowers costs in the long run.
